The Roots of Rhythm: World Drumming for Fifth and Sixth Grade Classrooms teacher's guide provides ten multi-cultural, cross curricular lessons designed to support an integrated arts and academic program. The guide includes cultural historical backgrounds, rhythmic performance exercises, drum-making activities, and additional resources including a companion Audio CD with musical examples and play-along exercises. The Roots of Rhythm curriculum has been designed for fifth and sixth grades but can be adapted by teachers for use with other grade levels. The curriculum supports classroom teachers in integrating music, music-making activities, and related cultural content into classroom curriculums. The curriculum also supports music educators in introducing performance-based drum programs for students. Content and activities align with state and national educational standards. |
